Gray and white cumulus clouds billow in the sky above a landscape of a yellow and green meadow. A brook, running parallel to a dirt road scattered with reflective puddles from an early rain, leads the eye to the center of the composition where a barren tree heads the row of trees running into the depth of the painting, and the path of the storm. Enhancing the yellow, green and brown landscape, Mønsted has added subtle white and pink wild flowers along the shores of the brook. A lone brown and white spotted cow in the center left faces the patch of yellow grass across the road. Mønsted’s talent as a painter is evident in his execution of the water and clouds. As these elements tend to offer the greatest challenge to artists, his execution shows his abilities and skills as a master. |
