Nathaniel Sichel is often familiarized with Nonnenbruch's work, but in their circles of influence, exceeded him in fame and popularity. He was first known for his lithographic work, but eventually became a master of superbly drawn and painted portrait figures. He is a favorite portrait painter in Germany, and his historically relevant portraiture may be found in various public collections. Sichel was a pupil of the Berlin Academy under Julius Schrader, between 1859 and 1862 and won a major prize in 1864. He then studied in Rome and Paris and was a graduate of the Berlin and Paris Academy. |
