Artist Background:

"My love of photography began with an interest in astronomy," Monson says, "When I was 12, I would sneak off with my parent's Konica 35mm and take long exposures of the stars. I was amazed at how the camera could capture light invisible to my eyes." Growing up in a quiet rural community in the foothills of Southern Alberta, Canada, he was never short of photographic opportunities and his passion for the landscape grew. He decided to study photography and art history at Ricks College. From there he attended Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a BFA in photography. Monson received several scholarships and awards, his most recent being a grant for photographic studies of ancient subjects in Ireland, the British Isles and France.
